Quincy lives with her mom, dad and twin older brothers (now usually at college) in San Francisco’s colorful Mission District. For Quincy, the neighborhood’s traditions and artistic culture are everything. “My neighbors are family, too,” Quincy says. “Rosa–who lives down the hall–is teaching me how to make authentic Mexican tamales. So good! And Eddy–who owns the bodega–knows everything about plants.” Besides cooking, Quincy is passionate about computer science and volleyball. Her brothers helped her create her first website at age seven. It was html and css only, with just a few images, but she was hooked. What started as a hobby led her to the engineering and robotics school she attends now. To play volleyball, Quincy joined the league at her local community center. Is she any good? “I’m improving,” Quincy says. “I was told I’d be a natural because of my height, but that hasn’t totally been the case. My height doesn’t hurt, but I was a mess. I’ve had to spend a ton of time working on my serve. Coding is more natural to me.” Quincy commits to all her passions “110%.” That includes being a Cuddly Ambassador. “It’s very important to me that all girls—of all ages—know they can achieve anything,” Quincy says. “Girls shouldn’t be intimidated by tough subjects or activities. Just because it’s tough doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing. In fact, it’s usually the opposite. I asked my brothers so many debugging questions,” she laughs. “I’m surprised they didn’t kick me out of their room. Now, I know they’re proud. I might have been a science project to them, but it was mutually good.”
